App Stack Cost

Who prices the apps here

Every bill on App Stack Cost is worked out the same way: prices are read from each vendor's public pricing page and re-checked (prices were last checked October 8, 2026), the monthly bill is computed at 300, 2,000 and 10,000 orders, and each app is judged by our eight published checks. The authors below have run and audited Shopify app stacks. No developer pays to be listed or ranked, and App Stack Cost is not affiliated with Shopify Inc. or any app developer.

Aoife Brennan, e-commerce operations manager

Aoife Brennan has run Shopify storefronts for consumer brands in Dublin since 2016, including three stores doing over 8,000 orders a month. She has migrated two of them off overlapping apps after finding loyalty, reviews and email bundled into one tool at a lower total price. Her app comparisons come from invoices she signed off on, not vendor demos. She does not cover theme development.

Covers: overlapping apps and consolidation; per-order cost math; annual vs monthly billing.

Daniel Okafor, Shopify developer

Daniel Okafor has built and repaired Shopify stores in Lagos since 2018, about 80 projects, many for merchants selling across Nigeria and Ghana. He has trimmed app stacks for 30-plus stores whose owners were paying for unused seats and order headroom, and his removal checklists come from those sessions. He writes the "what you're overpaying for" notes here. He does not cover inventory sourcing.

Covers: unused plans and seats; billing models that punish low-volume stores; refunds and cancellation terms.

Fatima Al-Rashid, online store operations lead

Fatima Al-Rashid has managed Shopify operations for retailers in Dubai since 2019, including a fragrance store that grew from 400 to 11,000 orders a month. She migrated that store's app stack twice and documented exactly which plan upgrades triggered at which order counts. Her write-ups of mid-volume pricing come from those migrations. She does not cover offline retail systems.

Covers: plan tiers at 2,000 and 10,000 orders a month; upgrade triggers; apps that charge by usage.

Grace Mwangi, e-commerce manager

Grace Mwangi has managed Shopify stores for Kenyan fashion and beauty brands in Nairobi since 2020, including one that went from 200 to 3,000 orders a month in two years. She has staged that growth three times and recorded which app plans kept up and which billed punitively per order. She writes the growth-stage pricing checks here. She does not cover payment provider selection.

Covers: how app bills grow between store sizes; M-Pesa and regional payment workarounds; loyalty and review app tiers.

Kenji Watanabe, Shopify developer

Kenji Watanabe has built and maintained Shopify stores in Osaka since 2015, roughly 120 projects, most of them for small merchants under 500 orders a month. He wrote the internal checklist his agency uses to test whether a free app tier will break at a store's order volume before the client is billed. He writes the free-tier and entry-plan checks here from that testing, and does not cover app marketing claims.

Covers: free tiers and their limits; pricing at small order volumes; apps that bill by order count.

Nathan Whitfield, Shopify app consultant

Nathan Whitfield has audited Shopify app stacks for e-commerce brands from Austin, Texas since 2017, about 180 stores in total. He rebuilt billing for a 40-app catalog store and cut its monthly app spend from $2,300 to $1,050 without losing a feature the store used. He writes the app cost breakdowns and plan-tier checks here from those audits, and does not advise on which sales channels a store should sell on.

Covers: app pricing at 300, 2,000 and 10,000 orders a month; plan limits; when a cheaper tier still covers the store.

Pieter van Dijk, Shopify integrator

Pieter van Dijk has connected Shopify stores to ERP and fulfillment systems from Rotterdam since 2016, about 70 integrations, most for merchants shipping 1,000–5,000 orders a month. He has replaced custom-built tools with off-the-shelf apps 30-odd times and knows exactly which app tiers include the API limits those replacements need. He writes the integration and API-limit pricing notes here, and does not build custom apps for readers.

Covers: apps priced by API or event volume; shipping and fulfillment app tiers; what breaks at scale.

Priyanka Nair, Shopify developer

Priyanka Nair has built Shopify themes and app integrations in Bengaluru since 2017, working on about 150 stores, most under 300 orders a month. She has unwound 25 app installs that duplicated features a theme already had, and her page-builder vs theme comparison comes from those removals. She writes the small-store app checks here. She does not cover app development for vendors.

Covers: apps a small store can skip; page builders vs themes; pricing at 300 orders a month.

Sara Lindqvist, Shopify Plus project manager

Sara Lindqvist has led Shopify Plus migrations for brands around Malmö, Sweden since 2018, eleven of them, each involving an audit of 20–60 installed apps. She kept a spreadsheet of every app's price at three store sizes across four years, which she now uses to check whether a vendor has raised prices quietly. She writes the large-store cost comparisons here, and does not cover Shopify Plus contract negotiation.

Covers: app costs at 10,000 orders a month; Plus-level alternatives to mid-tier apps; price history.

Tomás Herrera, Shopify agency owner

Tomás Herrera has run a five-person Shopify agency in Buenos Aires since 2018 that has launched about 90 stores for merchants in Latin America. He negotiates app subscriptions for clients and has tracked how often quoted prices differ from list prices, keeping a ledger of every plan change since 2021. He writes about "Quote"-only apps and hidden per-order fees from that ledger. He does not recommend marketing agencies.

Covers: quote-based pricing; fees that appear only at checkout tiers; annual billing discounts.
